Elder Services of Worcester Area's consumers who are enrolled in the Money Management Program vary with their specific needs. Although they can make financial decisions for themselves, they often have trouble with budgeting, balancing their checkbooks, writing out checks, and paying their bills independently. The Bill Payer volunteer conducts a home visit once a month and it typically takes about an hour. During the visits, the volunteer will assist the consumer with going through their mail and setting aside bills that need to be paid (if needed), assisting the consumer with paying the bills (writing out checks and having the consumer sign), reconciling the consumer’s checking account, and helping with budgeting. Each month the Bill Payer is responsible for writing a brief report which summarizes the monthly visit with the consumer, bill payer activity that was conducted, and noting any problems that might have occurred (if any). This report is then forwarded to the Money Management Specialist for review and filing. Initial training and 3 meetings per year may be required to be attended in person at ESWA's office in Worcester.
