Who We Are
Founded in 1986, the Blackstone Heritage Corridor (BHC) began as a federal commission through the
National Heritage Areas Program of the Federal Department of Interior covering 25 towns in Massachusetts
and Rhode Island. In 2010, the organization became an official 501 (c) (3). BHC is a dynamic and successful
nonprofit that is:
- committed to the long-term vitality of the region as a tourist destination;
- partnering with municipalities, nonprofits, business and residents to restore, retain and reinvigorate the Valley;
- coordinating enthusiastic volunteers to support programing on behalf of BHC and its partners; and
- Facilitating a variety of programs and events to connect people to the National Heritage Corridor and its nationally significant resources.
- BHC is the designated partner with the Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park and provides programs and activities throughout the 25 towns of the National
What We Do
BHC acts as the Storyteller, the Guide, and the Champion of the Blackstone River Valley. Our ongoing projects include:
- Protecting the River by dramatically reducing pollution resulting in healthier neighboring communities and increased access for water sports including kayaking and canoeing.
- Expanding and maintaining the bikeway/greenway between Worcester and Providence, which serves as a tremendous asset to the quality of life of Valley communities and families.
- Offering accessibility programs for people with disabilities, veterans and their families. Through these efforts hundreds of people have been able to enjoy our bikeways and waterways for the first time.
- BHC tells an unmatched story of cultural evolution in partnership with dozens of local organizations and communities to highlight the richly diverse narrative of labor and immigration.
- Support the National Historical Park by managing and providing our award-winning volunteer and juniorranger programs.
